Marketing Successfully in the Web 2.0 World

Last night, I attended a packed MIT Enterprise Forum of the Northwest Event in Bellevue that hosted an engaging panel of 2.0 marketers that shared their insights on separating the hype verses the reality of social media as a channel for marketers.

Jonathan Rosoff from Avenue A/Razorfish moderated. The panelists included the following: Mike Murphy of Facebook, Derek Gordon of Technorati, Ben Elowitz of Wetpaint, and Norman Guadagno of ZAAZ. Mike and Derek shared alot of insight and data related to their respected companies and clients that engage with them. Derek was quite liberal with his views on why people are participating in social media and Norman and Ben took very real and practical views of what it all means to marketer and consumers. There was good debate about how to actually measure value from engaging social media. It’s more than just creating a blog or measuring click-through. Some very good dialogue about letting go of your brand….if you think you still have control of it.

I am speaking to WOMMA about putting on a similar discussion panel at their upcoming summit in Las Vegas in November.

I am hoping that Norman isn’t too famous by then to do it with me. I’ll post more another day about WOMMA event. If your not already a member you should join.
